3 Fun Events to go to in the Ft Lauderdale/Miami area in October
After the searing heat of the summer with and hurricane season winding down, October is a lovely time in South Florida to get out and about to take in all that this vibrant area has to offer. No matter what your interest, hobby or stage in life, there is something for everyone. The hard part isn’t finding something to do in your free time. The hard part is deciding which event to take in.
Here are 3 fun events to check out this October:
Grovetoberfest
Although Miami is miles and miles away from Germany, there are dozens of Octoberfest celebrations throughout the area that run throughout the month of October. Some are small-scale and intimate, whereas some are entirely authentic, complete with beer steins, bratwurst and polka bands.
One notable Octoberfest event is Grovetoberfest, held in Coconut Grove’s Peacock Park. It’s touted as South Florida’s largest craft beer festival. The festival is a one-day event and features over 300 different brews. This isn’t just for beer enthusiasts. Some of South Florida’s most prominent chefs will be on hand, with cooking demos and samples.
Another highlight of this festival is their annual homebrew beer contest, where amateurs can put their best product forward for judging.
Coconut Grove Pumpkin Patch Festival
For a more family-friendly outing, considering heading to Regatta Park to take in this weekend-long outdoor festival that starts on Friday, October 21.
Although pumpkins are typically fruits that hail from more northern climates, that doesn’t stop this popular event from showcasing all the pumpkin fun that you can handle, including a pumpkin patch, a pumpkin beer garden, pumpkin decorating and a pumpkin food court. There are even cornstalk mazes, carnival rides and the chance to take a family photo is a traditional fall vignette.
Miami Broward Carnival
This colorful and lively celebration takes place in early October and is the largest Caribbean-American Carnival (Mardi-Gras) Parade in South Florida. The carnival features a parade that features dozens of bands and dancing troupes. The party carries on all day with steel bands, reggae artists and more with a Caribbean flair. There is also an impressive Caribbean food truck line-up. A junior carnival lets the up-and-coming young artists get involved too.
